Wish List for Fall Quilting 2023

Hello Quilters! I am back from a long and restful summer holiday. I was gone because in Italy, peak vacation is around mid-August to the first week in September. Most people go to the beach and bask in the glorious Mediterranean sunshine. This exodus of Italian citizens to the beach leaves the city of Rome empty. It was quiet and calm – marvelous. Only tourists could be heard as they walked in the horrid city heat looking for an open restaurant or open shop (many good ones were closed for the summer holiday).  When everything got quiet, I decided I wanted to participate in the summer break, too. I wasn’t on a Mediterranean beach turning a glorious hue of golden brown but I wanted the benefit of resting my mind.

It was awesome. I feel so good! The only thing, I was hoping by now, in mid-September, that there would be cooler nights to get me in the mood for fall quilting. Instead, it is the never-ending summer! Haha!

Despite the heat, I spent the summer break dreaming about what I want to do next. Some things on my wish list are:

A Double Wedding Ring Quilt (DWR)

I am in love with the double wedding ring quilt and I have always wanted to make one. I have made only 1 block, now I want to make an entire quilt.
Victoria Findlay Wolfe has beautiful examples of the DWR. She gives them a modern twist. I have her acrylic DWR template and I have her book, Double Wedding Ring Quilts, Traditions Made Modern. Now I just need to find the time to make my DWR quilt! (By the way, the book has awesome details for how to make a DWR.)

If you want to make a DWR for free, here is link to the McCalls website. If you sign up for the news letter, you can download the DWR quilt pattern for free.

This gnome quilt is so cute! I would love to make it! The pattern is in the book, Quilted Gnomes for your Home. Thanks to @SusanofKentucky on Instagram for posting her gnome quilt. I saw it and got inspired! You can buy the book (hard copy or electronic) on the Annie’s Quilting website. Click here.
Now is the perfect time to start so that it is finished before Thanksgiving. We all know the time warp starts the week before Thanksgiving…no time for anything else! YIKEEEEEES!

I like the style of this placemat I saw on the McCalls website, Butterwick Waverly Pattern B5660. The price is steep BUT check the site for sales. I bought the pdf pattern for $3.99. When there is a sale, it is stellar! Click here.

Handstitching

I need to finish hand stitching the Sweet Spins baby quilt. Yikes! I hope it is done by the end of this week.

What kind of things are on your agenda for the coming months? What is your wish list? Comment below:) I’d love to hear from you.

I send you lots of gioia from Rome!

Rachel
