Sweet Spins Quilt Pattern Release

Easy Series

Hello Quilters,

We made it to our final quilt in the easy quilt series. This last free quit pattern is baby size and oh so simple and adorable. In fact, as you know, the name is Sweet Spins. It is 48” x 48”. Just perfect for a sweet little baby.

Some things to know before you begin.

  • You can choose to make the quilt with 1 pinwheel of background fabric and 1 color. Or, you can make Sweet Spins with 2 pinwheels or 3 pinwheels. (see the mock-ups)
  • The fabric is based on 42” of workable fabric.
  • The coloring sheet is found in this older blog post. Click the link, then scroll down😉

If your undecided, I am including some mock-ups of the three versions. I know that sometimes all we need is a little inspiration to get the juices flowing. Once you have an idea, you can finally run with it! E-X-C-I-T-I-N-G!

Below are mock ups in a 2 pinwheel version, next a version with 3 pinwheels, and finally a version with 1 pinwheel. The free quilt pattern of Sweet Spins, includes instructions for all three versions.

Neutrals are so soothing. Don’t you think? There is something calming about neutral colors. This mock up of two pinwheel colors uses a dusty rose, and a dark teal. When I tried to make the background in cream, the color contrast was almost severe and the cream color broke the feeling of a calm harmony. When I tried the background in light pink, well, I just fell in love with the gentle contrast.

This mock up uses 2 pinwheel colors.

The calm mood of the neutrals inspired me to create something opposite. I wanted bright summer colors of watermelon, the pool, the sun, and orange popsicles. This version of Sweet Spins free quilt pattern captures all those summer feelings!

This mock up uses 3 pinwheel colors.

If you ask an Italian what represents an American, they usually say Jeans and a T-shirt. This version of just 1 pinwheel is a mix of summer watermelon and denim. I really associate watermelon with hot summer days (even if I don’t like it so much). And, denim is denim. It is a classic and a really fun fabric to use in all size quilts. But mostly it is fun to use in free quilt patterns!;)

This mock up uses 1 pinwheel color.
