I was dreaming of a cozy quilt for the fall season. I imagined what I wanted to wrap myself in. I wanted something that reflected how I see this time of year. When I think of fall, I think of the beautiful warm aromas that come from the oven like a pumpkin pie. I think about the warm gathering of people and how their presence takes the chill from the air. There is less daylight, and warm lights twinkle like little stars in the windows of people at home. So, when it came time to design the pattern, there were only two things that kept coming to mind: Pumpkins and Stars.
One of my favorite things about this quilt pattern is that it can also be used during Christmas. Maybe you are wondering why would I want a quilt for Fall and Christmas. Because for me, the symbols of pumpkins and stars hold a meaning of be merry, be warm, gather and rejoice…prepare because a big party is coming in December! I just get so excited when I think of all the feast days that lead up to Christmas.
In my opinion September and October are the pre-pre-party and November is the pre-party to Christmas. Let’s just take a look at November’s pre-party list. November 1st is the kick off with All Saints Day. The very next day, November 2nd is All Souls Day, where we remember the departed. Then there are two more feast days on November 20th, Christ the King, and the 21st Presentation of Blessed Virgin Mary. Finally, on the 4th Thursday of the month, it is Thanksgiving! This isn’t including all the additional gatherings that friends and family hold for us. There are a lot of super festivities before we even head into Advent At this point, we still haven’t arrived at Christmas Day and the days that follow it! When I look at autumn this way, how can I not love a blanket full of pumpkins and stars?
