Pattern Review: “Glowing” by Emily Dennis

I have a sweet quilt to show you. In October 2020, I participated in a quilt along on Instagram with Emily Dennis of Quilty Love. She was promoting her pattern, “Glowing”, and I decided to join the in the fun.

If you’ve never done a quilt along, I encourage you to try one. It can be a fun way to make a quilt with other quilters (even if it is virtual).

My finished quilt. I used the quilt pattern, “Glowing” by Emily Dennis of Quilty Love.

I made a throw size quilt without the sashing and without the borders. I still found it to be a generously sized. This was a good thing! My husband and I could share the quilt during the colder months while watching television together.

About this pattern:

  • includes 3 size options: Baby (43″ x 43″), Throw (63″ x 82″)and Double/Full (84″ x 104″)
  • Fat quarter friendly or 1/4 yard friendly
  • Level: beginner with some experience

Step by Step

The quilt pieced together rather quickly because the pattern instructions were easy to follow. Emily Dennis provides plenty of graphics in her instructions to make things more clear. I love when there are good graphics! I think I rely on these more than the written format.

The Quilt Along

Each week the quilt along group did a step. There were about four or five steps to complete the quilt in one month.

The first week of the quilt along we did the cutting. It didn’t seem possible that two little hills of fabric could make my quilt but they made it!

All the cut pieces for the quilt.
Unbelievable these little piles made a huge throw!

The next weeks we started to assemble the blocks. The goal of how many blocks to complete depended on the size of the quilt. My quilt was a throw size of 12 blocks. So, my goal was 4 blocks per week for 3 weeks.

I thought this was a reasonable goal. I was able to find time a few days a week or for just a few hours on the weekend.

“Glowing” quilt pieces laid out so I can see the order before sewing them together.

Seeing the Light

Before I knew it, I was finished with my quilt! I credit this to the quilt along. Sewing with a group kept me on schedule and it motivated to finish my quilt quickly! How great to finish a quilt in about 1 month. All that was left to do was the batting, backing, quilting, and binding.

The Finished Quilt

So happy with the results. If you are looking for a traditional looking quilt with a twist, try this quilt pattern, Glowing, by Emily Dennis.
