Easy Quilt Series
“Sweet Spins”
Hello everyone! I hope you are having a great summer. It is my favorite time of the year. I really love the sunshine, the long days, and the beach. Although, it is rather hot this year in Rome! This city really heats up because the old buildings and the stone streets absorb and retain the heat. There is a reason that Italian cities used to shut down for the summer. Everyone would escape to the seaside or the mountains! Now I get it. But, there is so much tourism now, that almost everything stays open for business.
By the way, if you are thinking of visiting Rome or Italy, I would highly recommend the off season to avoid the heat. Everything to see is outside…
Before we begin this final quilt in the free series, I am sorry the blog post and the newsletter are late. I am working on being better at meeting deadlines. My goal by the end of this year is to better understand timing of:
- quilt making
- photos
- writing content for the newsletter and blog
- pattern writing
- subscriber box/pop-up
- all the technological hiccups that goes along with this list…
This is why there are free quilts. I need the practice of sharpening my skills on this list. Thank you for your patience and support!
As the city heats up, I think about the pinwheel. This funny little object always spins with the wind. The pinwheel as a lawn ornament is a memory I have of American front yards. Everything was perfectly curated, and the pinwheel was an indication of the strength of the wind. When it was hot out, the colorful rotation was a sign of mercy. I would think, “Ahhhh, the pinwheel is spinning! The wind is blowing to give me relief from the heat.” As I was making this final quilt, it reminded me of these sweet simple memories.
Sweet Spins Free Quilt Pattern: 3/3
“Sweet Spins” is the last of the 3 free quilt pattern series. I love all the quilt patterns in this easy series but this one is by far the fastest and easiest. If you scroll below there is a pdf coloring sheet. It will help you plan your colors!
The quilt pattern is baby size. The color choices are limited to reduce the overwhelm of selecting fabric.
- Two Options for the pinwheels: One color or 2 Colors
- One color for the background fabric.
- One color for the binding.
That is it! So easy and super fast!
Tips for the pinwheel colors:
Choose 1 light solid color or low volume that is light in color
Choose 1 bright print or a bright solid. This creates a contrast against the light color.
Look at the mock up below.
